Starting the Semester

By Gregory Sams

If you’re anything like me, getting ready to to get prepared for back to school is always put off until the very last possible second. As bad as that may sound, it’s a common issue among most students who may dread to start again. Doing so however can cause forgotten items and issues that may need to be solved right when the semester is starting which can lead to a multitude of problems. This will ultimately be a bad way to start the semester. To avoid this let’s take a look at the everything you need be sure is handled before, and early on in the semester.

Be sure that your schedule has no conflicts or errors. A schedule error is the last thing anyone wants or needs to deal with on the first day. A majority of the time your counselor is there to help but due to human error, the possibility is always there. If you have a scheduling conflict that arises be sure to talk to your counselors fast as possible before the final day to add or drop classes. To make sure your schedule is in check, log into OLSIS, click student records, then go to registration and click on concise student schedule.

Textbooks are arguably one of the most important things a student needs for the semester. The campus bookstore has a variety of options that can help you to acquire your books in a timely manner. Prior to the semester beginning of the semester, a student can go online to the WVUP Bookstore website found at https://wvup.bncollege.com/shop/wvu-parkersburg/home.

Select “find my textbooks” and enter your class’ information such as semester, CRN, and the class number. From there you can have them delivered to your house, or have them scheduled for a pickup. If you’re one of those people who prefer wait until you for sure need the book, that’s alright too. The workers can help you to find your book in the store when you need it.

The bookstore also has students covered for basic necessities students may need throughout the semester. In addition to textbooks, common items such as notebooks, pens, paper, folders, highlighters, binders, calculators, planners, desk supplies, art supplies and even desktops, laptops, and tablets. In the event that you find yourself underprepared theres no need to worry, the bookstore has you covered. There is a plethora of options for students to take advantage of offered here.

The beginning of a semester can be rough for some students. Some are excited to get back to the grind of getting their degree, others not so much. No matter the type of student preparation is the key to start off the semester on the right foot and not fall behind when the semester is starting. Being sure to have the necessities at the beginning rather than later allows for a less stressful opening to the semester and more time to put towards getting your degree in class. Be sure to visit the bookstore if you’re in need of materials quickly, and they just may be able to help you out. Here’s to a successful semester!
