Summer’s Palate: Cool and Refreshing Lemonade

by James Dobbs

If you want to know the proper way to make lemonade, look no further. It is a simple process that requires minimal ingredients with surprising results. Before we make lemonade we need to make homemade simple syrup. Simple syrup is the combination of sugar and water to help the ingredients combine together better. It also leaves the lemonade less grainy than it would be if we just used sugar.

Step 1: Take equal parts water and sugar. For example, 2 cups of water equals 2 cups of sugar.

Step 2: Boil the water.

Step 3: When at boil, add the sugar and let it dissolve.

Step 4: Once dissolved, you are left with simple syrup or a sugar syrup.

Step 5: Put it in the fridge to let it cool down while you are working with the lemons.

Now, make sure you have plenty of lemons, lemons are incredibly tiny fruits that give a small amount of juice. Try to have at least ten to 12 lemons.

Step 1: Juice the lemons into a pitcher or bowl.

Step 2: Run the juice through a strainer to make sure you get out any seeds that have made their way into your container.

Step 3: Fill-up a pitcher about half-way with ice.

Step 4: Pour the lemon juice over the ice.

Step 5: Add as little of the simple syrup or as much as you want. You want to add it to taste to tell if you want the lemonade to be sweet or sour.

The benefit to making lemonade is getting to smell your hands for hours later with the lemony smell. I hope you have fun making Lemonade. Enjoy! A nice refreshing glass of lemonade pairs well with pulled pork, which is my next recipe.
