Summer is around the corner, and blockbusters movies will be calling for you. You will be able to enjoy so many great movies in several different genres. With more free time on your hands, now that school is out, why not go see a movie or two to spoil yourself a bit? What are the movies you should go see during the summer? That is what I’m here to talk about today, the top 10 summer blockbuster countdown! I’m sure you will find a couple that you won’t be able to resist.
10. “Solo: A Star Wars Story”
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” will be coming out May 25 of this year. We all know how big a deal “Star Wars” is. Even people who don’t watch “Star Wars” know who Darth Vader is. “Star Wars” is a big deal, and I’m sure plenty of people are going to take time out of their summer vacation to go see this movie.
Number 9. “Incredibles 2”
“Incredibles 2” will be coming to theatres June 15. This is a parent-friendly film that kids of all ages should enjoy. Who doesn’t love Disney films? Just because it is a cartoon doesn’t take away how good the movie can be. I personally enjoyed “Monsters University” and “Toy Story 3” after graduating high school. “Toy Story 3” is my favorite Disney film of all-time, and it is a fairly recent made. The release in 2004 actually received Academy awards including Best Animated Film, beating out “Shrek 2” and “Shark Tale.”
8. “Ant-Man and the Wasp”
“Ant-Man and the Wasp” is scheduled to hit theatres on July 6. In the last Marvel film I went to see, I told people “Black Panther” exceeded my expectations. I went to see the movie with a friend, and his reaction was “It’s a Marvel film, they are always amazing.” If that doesn’t sum up why you should see this film, I don’t know what else to tell you. I enjoy action movies, and I was surprised by how good the “Ant-Man” movie was, particularly since, “Ant-Man” isn’t one of the top Marvel heroes. When you sit and talk to your buddy about your favorites, “Ant-Man” never comes to mind. However, this Marvel movie should be very good one that you shouldn’t miss.
“Christopher Robin” comes to theatres on August 3. Who doesn’t have a soft spot for Winnie the Pooh. As children growing up, most everyone know who Winnie the Pooh is. The world-famous Disney character is finally back in a blockbuster movie. This time, it is featuring Christopher Robin who loses his sense of imagination. Pooh and friends will attempt to regain his imagination again. It is a movie for friends and family all to enjoy. Who doesn’t love Disney movies?
6. “The Meg”
“The Meg” horror film comes out August 10. Jason Statham is in another summer blockbuster. He is the hero saving people from getting eaten by a 70-plus-foot shark. It really depends on your taste on whether or not to give it a chance. If you love horror movies, you might want to give this film a try. If you have been a fan of Jason Statham in the past films, this movie could be on your bucket list.
“Hereditary” comes to theatres June 8. Some people are calling this film the scariest film of the year. So horror fans, it is a must-see for all of you. When someone dies in her family, Annie believes a presence was left behind. Annie explores the darkness to escape the house. Safe to say, you won’t have any fingernails after watching this film.
4. “Uncle Drew”
“Uncle Drew” airs in theatres June 29. Major NBA stars are featured in this summer blockbuster movie: Kyrie Irving (Uncle Drew), Lisa Leslie, Shaquille O’neal, Nate Robinson, Chris Webber and Reggie Miller. The number of Hall of Famers in the last sentence are endless. We have not seen NBA stars featured in a movie like this since “Like Mike.” This movie is a must see for any basketball or sports fan out there. It is a comedy, so expect some good humor during the film. Being a basketball movie, this will be hard to pass up.
3. “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” will be in theatres June 22. The “Jurassic Park” franchise is back with another major film. Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? The movie is a must-see for any fan of the franchise. After a volcanic eruption, our heroes attempt to save the remaining dinosaurs from extinction. Their extinction is a major part of the history of dinosaurs. So, if you have any interest in dinosaurs, this should be a movie you should see. It may be too violent for children, however, I started watching the movies at a young age. It depends on the parents perspective and what they think is appropriate for their children. I’ve been told a lot of positive reviews after the last movie.
2. “Avengers: Infinity War”
“Avengers: Infinity Wars” comes to the big screen April 27. Avengers must sacrifice everything to beat Thanos before he ends the universe. This is another Marvel film that is a must-see as it features more heroes than any previously. All the big-name superheroes from Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, will be in it. You have got to believe it is a must-see film, especially with most marvel movies being fantastic films. I feel as if the previous Avenger movies have not lived up to the hype as the first one did. Hopefully, this one proves to be the best one yet. Another movie that kids should love to see with their families.
1. “Deadpool 2”
“Deadpool 2” is coming out May 18. “Deadpool” was a major success the first go- round. People have been asking for this, and it’s coming this summer to the big screen. Marvel movies are really great. However, people who don’t like superhero type of films really enjoyed “Deadpool”. Now the comedy may not be appropriate for a family movie night, it really depends on what the parents feel is appropriate for their kids to watch. Personally, this is the movie, I’m looking most forward to see. It has the ability to have a great comedy along with great action. Deadpool battles evil to save the life of a little boy.
Of the summer blockbusters, I believe these are the best of the best in regards to including a lot of different genres. You got your horror, action, adventure, sci-fi, comedy and family films. It is going to be hard to pass up seeing just one of these films. Now that all of my fellow students are relaxing, go see a big blockbuster movie. Whether it is seeing a man-eating dinosaur, a cartoon, an old man breaking ankles, or heroes saving the world. Whatever your taste, I’m sure your friends and family will enjoy these big screen films. I want you all to enjoy your summer of relaxation. You have earned every second of it. Go out there, work on your tans, get in the pool, and make sure to go out and see one of these blockbuster movies. When you get back, you’ll have plenty of work to do.
