Toys For Tots Painting Party
by Brooke Buchanan
In an effort to give every child a little Christmas, Toys For Tots is holding a painting party March 24 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells.
The class, being taught by Betsy Offenberger with Brushing it with Betsy, is $40 if paid in advance and $45 at the door. “We chose her because she has done several classes and is a member of the church as well, which is why we chose that location,” Event Coordinator Angie Burgy said.
At the event, Toys For Tots will be collecting non perishable food items for the church’s food pantry. Every item will be an entry to a drawing. “We will donate all of the food collected to them as a way to say ‘thank you’ for allowing us to do the class there,” Burgy said.
Although Christmas just passed, it is never too early to start fundraising for the holiday season. “With the amount of families who need assistance, it becomes increasingly difficult to garner enough charitable donations in the short amount of time that the Christmas season holds,” Mid-Ohio Valley Toys for Tots Coordinator Cliff Hecker said.
In addition to non perishable food items, Toys for Tots will also be accepting toy donations in order to stock up for the Christmas season. “It’s the nation’s leading charitable organization to help underprivileged children and the community in which they live,” Hecker said.
Refreshments will be provided at the party. For more information or to register for the party, check out the Facebook event page.
