New Commerce in the Mid-Ohio Valley
by Toni Grogg
New food and shopping spots are popping up around the Mid-Ohio Valley. These stores and restaurants are a much needed answer to all the calls for something “different” in the area.
Sheetz is the first out of the few that has already opened and employed 70 individuals. The grand opening was Jan. 11 at 36 Ann St., which brought in large crowds. Among the crowd was Adam Sheetz, grandson of Bob Sheetz, who first opened the chain. The new location offered free stainless steel coffee cups and free self serve coffee and soda for a limited amount of customers and time. Not to mention, there were lots of prizes including a $1,000 Sheetz gift card giveaway.
The second Sheetz location is in progress. It is located on 7th and East Streets, and it is to be open at the end of February. There is also a third site, but its location has not been disclosed, because it is still in the works.
For those shopaholics, the Grand Central Mall will be welcoming an H&M in replacement of Elder Beerman. This store has been said to open sometime this coming fall.
Jumping across the river, there will be an IHOP opening in Marietta. The General Manager, Rodney Ahart, stated in a Facebook post that they will be open by the end of this month.
