Spending the Day Downtown
by Chelsea Ayers
With winter officially over, you may find yourself wondering what you can do outside the house. Well, the answer is simple, spend a day in Downtown Parkersburg. The downtown area has many options for dining and things to do, plus a few stores that are truly unique.
You can start your day by getting Starbucks at the Blennerhassett Hotel, which will be a great pick me up to your fun filled day of exploring the downtown area. From there, you can walk a few blocks to Point Park Marketplace. This area is great for anyone to spend their time. Not only do they have different events that are held at The Point, including a farmers market every Saturday, but there is also an array of food to try. Some of the restaurants include: Toscano in Appalachia Winery, Make Mia Pizza, Whit’s Frozen Custard and many more.
After exploring the market, you can then take a Sternwheeler ride for just $10 that leaves from the waterfront of Point Place. Once you are back from the ride, you can then stop for lunch at one of the many restaurants that are spread throughout downtown like the Parkersburg Brewing Co., Third Street Deli or The Daily Grind.
After lunch, take a tour through the Blennerhassett Museum for an opportunity to learn about the Island and everything Blennerhassett. You can then travel up Market Street to visit Classic Plastics Toy Store and Market Street Antiques.
As the day comes to an end, you can grab dinner at Spats Restaurant before heading to Smoot Theatre for a play or spend the evening at The Coffee Bar where local artists play. If you are there on Tuesday, you can bring friends for a fun trivia night, which makes the perfect end to a day spent in Downtown Parkersburg.
