War is Raging for the SGA
by Tyler Bennett
A battle is underway to raise support for student veterans.
The second annual Change War began Sept 6. The Change War is a competition between students and faculty and staff. The winners will get to pie Student Government Association executive officers in the face.
Change collection jars are located in the student lounge and in the SGA office, which is in Room 1409 near the lounge. The intent is to collect spare change – though dollar bills are welcome, too.
SGA Vice Preisdent Julaine Beckett started the Change War for student veterans in spring 2016, according to Morgan Carez who is running the contest this year as Commuity Service Director.
This year, Beckett will be one of three to take a pie in the face.
“We just want to be able to give back to those who served our nation,” said SGA President Bill Bell.
Bell has been pied before – last Spring for a West Virginia University at Parkersburg Foundation fundraiser.
“Someone paid $20 to hit me with one,” Bell explained. “I wore an ‘apple pi’ shirt. If it’s for a good cause I’ll do it.”
The first event raised $75 according to Carez. Also, the competition was operated a bit differently.
“Last year was the start up of the event so we just divided the Student Government Association into two teams and gave the school the opportunity to support the team of their choice,” Carez said.

The war will rage on until Friday, December 2. The winner of the war will get to pie executive officers in the face. SGA executive officers include Bell, Beckett and Secretary/Treasurer Daniel Steele.
