The upstart WVU Parkersburg Lady Riverhawks (6-3) are in the midst of scheduling limbo. Despite multiple cancellations throughout 2016, the team will try to remain sharp and wait for its next opponent.
Following a competitive game versus Hocking College on Jan. 17, WVU Parkersburg looks to be ready when they are finally expected to come back home to face Potomac State College (9-5) on Feb. 13.
The Lady Riverhawks have had plenty of time to prepare for the Catamounts due to multiple game cancellations in the month of January. A contest at home versus the OSU Club Team was cancelled due to poor weather conditions on Jan. 23, and the game versus OU Eastern was postponed on the following day. A highly anticipated rematch against the Golden Eagles of Kent State Tuscarawas was slated to be the first matchup of February, but Kent State Tuscarawas Athletic Director, Waliah Poto, recently confirmed that the game was canceled. Coach Roger Flowers said that this free time has re-energized his team.
“I know that if we’re healthy, we can do anything. Earlier this season we had multiple players out due to sickness, so this break in action was needed. However, we can’t wait to get back on the court,” Flowers said.
If the upcoming contest with Potomac State College is canceled, WVU Parkersburg might reschedule with Kent State Tuscarawas. According to Director of Student Activities Tom Yencha, the Catamounts may cancel the game due to a scheduling conflict.
“To be entirely honest, we’re not sure who we’ll play next. I just made a series of phone calls, and we should hear back soon,” Yencha said on Wednesday.
A rematch with Kent State Tuscarawas would be enticing for the Lady Riverhawks, as they defeated the Golden Eagles in two overtimes by a score of 96-93 in a home game last month. The possibilities are endless for WVU Parkersburg, but they will look to be up for the next challenge.
